Summary	"Rio de Janeiro, Brazil--A tearful wife greets her husband, survivor of the fire aboard the Duque de Caxias, after he landed at a dock in Rio de Janeiro following his rescue. Seventeen passengers and one crew member of the ship, Brazil's largest passenger liner, died in the fire which swept the vessel early July 31. More than 1000 survivors were landed at Rio de Janeiro. The fire broke out at dawn in the engine room of the 6,937 -ton ship, reportedly because of oil spillage on the boilers. It spread quickly to the passengers' quarters, causing wide panic."
